I believe in serving those who serve others.

Hi, I’m Deborah Ager, a marketing mentor and business coach. I help service-based small businesses use storytelling and marketing to sparkle in the Sea of Blah, so they increase reach and income.

One story, ten years–and the universities came calling.

In 2003, I founded a nonprofit called 32 Poems Magazine.

When Yale called to ask for my tax ID number, I thought it was a scam. I googled the caller’s name and saw that she really did work at Yale. They’d meant to ask for our **nonprofit’s** tax ID number.

Yale wanted to buy an annual subscription. Other universities followed: next Harvard, then Brown, then University of Wisconsin…

I’d built a brand and used my marketing and storytelling skills to do it.

It wasn’t always easy, though. When I first started the magazine, I had no idea what our unique angle was, and I didn’t think our business origin story would be of interest to anyone. I actually had a pretty low opinion of my own skills, so I surprised myself by creating a nationally known and respected magazine.

Once I figured out HOW to craft and SHARE my story, marketing became easier. And it didn’t feel like “marketing.”

The power of story marketing—and some more results.

  • Built consulting business revenue that surpassed my previous “job” income.
  • Authored/co-edited three books (one on Bloomsbury, which does the Harry Potter books)
  • Invited to speak by museums, universities, marketing conferences, and small business groups.
  • Published Pulitzer Prize winners to an international audience.
  • Published 20 issues of a magazine.

People ask me how I do it…

When you communicate your story, you connect with people. They understand your work and values. They know how you fit into their world—or not. And you can invite those perfect-for-you prospects into your universe and grow your business.

After my first book and the magazine appeared, people came to ME to have me speak and give presentations. The speaking aligned with my life’s work, and brought me happiness, and job-replacing income.

And then I used my marketing superpowers to build a marketing program that generated $100M in 3.5 years for the American Red Cross.

And I used them for other businesses…

“Deborah oversaw the inline marketing for my company, which included SEO, AdWords campaigns and the email marketing program. Using her copywriting and conversion optimization skills, she increased the response rate to our online course from 15% to 42% in six months. We were happy with her results, and she’s fun to work with.”
