- Are you thinking about authoring a book to get more speaking engagements and grow your business?
- Are you uncertain how to start?
In 2007, I used an author’s book to land him tens of thousands of dollars in speaking engagements and sales trainings. That’s how I learned books can provide a powerful business marketing foundation when developed and marketed the right way.
I published my first book in 2009. My first book took ten years for me to put together. The next three books took only four years, and they appeared on publishers large and small.
Through these four books, I mastered the book creation process.
After my first book appeared, people sought me out for speaking engagements at colleges and universities. After my third book, I was invited to events at museums, conferences, and large urban arts centers.
I went on to help dozens of people with their books by collaborating with them on their book projects. What I found is that experts like you have all of the knowledge inside, yet you may need help getting it out and turning the material into a structured book that generates leads and prospects.
In my marketing career, I always found it enormously satisfying to see the leads turn into customers. So combining my business, marketing, and writing experience was the right answer to best serve business leaders. One of my first book writing clients hired me for just that reason. He liked the fact he could benefit from my deep understanding of digital marketing and business along with my writing and editing experience.
The reason business leaders turn to me for book facilitation is what this same client called my “trifecta” of marketing background, business acumen, and writing experience. I’m not just your editor. I’m your book doctor and collaborator. I ask the questions you don’t know to ask of yourself in order to deepen your topic, connect better with your readers and target market, and create a more effective marketing tool.
The magic happens in our first conversation.
As we work together, clients and I follow my proprietary book creating process.
Step 1: Master your market. We identify who will buy your book, so that we know people need this information. We go deep to paint a picture of your client, their concerns, and more. Many of my students and clients experience “a-ha” moments about their book ideas in this step.
Step 2: Mission alignment. Your mission and your book idea get married, so you understand exactly how the book will help your business and support business growth. I like to say, “When the going gets rough, a mission keeps you going.”
Step 3: Mine Material. Do you have your notes scattered all over the place? Or do you have no notes at all? Is your book in a box somewhere? You’re not alone! We collect the material you have (blogs, columns, courses, etc) and pull the ideas into one place, so we understand what we have and can move forward to the next step.
Step 4: Map Your Mind. You may have a lot of ideas, which is perfect. We use this time to uncover the themes and topics that need to be included in the book so that we have a clear blueprint for the next step.
Step 5: Move from Brain to Book. We meet and talk by phone to collect material. I record these calls and get transcripts. I capture your voice and thoughts and create a book that sounds just like you.
After the above steps, I begin delivering chapters for your review. You provide feedback, and I incorporate your ideas and thoughts into the second draft. We determine a schedule that works for your busy life, so we complete the project when you want it completed. It usually takes 3-6 months, depending upon how much time you can focus on it.
I believe in serving those who aim to improve humanity and those who have big ideas and need a bigger audience for them. That’s why I do this work.
Over the years, I’ve worked on marketing, writing, and web projects for the Centers for Disease Control, National Institutes of Health, Lockheed Martin, the U.S. General Accountability Office, and the American Red Cross.
Now I combine my marketing, business, and writing knowledge with my proprietary book creation process, so founders and CEOs like you can build your authority and capitalize on your thought leadership.
The first step in working with me is to book $99 Book Clarity call. In one hour, we’ll gain clarity on your project, determine your book’s title, create a book description, or discuss any other element of your book.
